FAQs
What is improv?
Merriam-Webster defines improv as relating to or being improvisation and especially an improvised comedy routine.
That essentially boils down to "making stuff up as we go". Anything you see done as improv is all happening in the moment. Members have never practiced lines like you would for stand-up comedy or theater. Usually, improv is based on an audience suggestion.
When do you practice?
We practice two times each week. Currently we hold practices on Mondays and Thursdays at night
What does a practice look like?
Since there is no way to practice making up things in the moment, we practice by doing warm-ups together as a group and practicing games that we perform in shows to engage us and help us learn to think quickly. Games in practice are meant to force us to practice a multitude of things such as: timing, characters, physicality, ideas, object work, and so on. We also practice games seen in shows so we're not a complete mess when we're on stage
What does a show look like?
Depends on what show you go to. We have more standard shows in the fall semester with specialty shows happening more so in the spring semester, both of which you can learn more about here. Typically we open with several short form games. Every show is ended with a long form game, typically a montage as it involves all members of the group performing together to create one harmonious scene.
Why do you do improv?
We got nothing better to do.
Just kidding,Â
we do it because we love to have fun with our friends and make each other laugh!
Do you expect me to read all of that?
No.
Who is the best member?
Gotta be Frank.
